God’s Supreme Court of Justice — Part 5 “Then I saw a great WHITE throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away” (Revelation 20:11a). We have observed the Lord’s COURTROOM of justice, which is depicted as a “great white throne.” Additionally, we have considered the sobering truth that the JUDGE of this concluding and cataclysmic preceding is none other than God the Son. “The Father has given all judgment into the hands of the Son.” This passage solidifies the truth that “every person who has ever walked on this planet has an appointment with the Lord Jesus. They will either face Him, as a born-again believer, at the Bema seat evaluation, or they will face Him as their final Judge!” Friend, on that staggering and sobering day of final judgment, the Lord Jesus will not appear as a helpless baby in a manger. Nor will He be revealed as the lowly carpenter’s Son of Nazareth. The apostle John has already described His appearance in the first chapter of Revelation. “His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow.” This blazing and brilliant whiteness may very well demonstrate the “perfect holiness and divine wisdom of the Judge” who is presiding over this courtroom scene. John goes on to say that, “His eyes are like a flaming fire.” Those piercing eyes establish His omniscience through the penetrating gaze of the Judge. “For there is no creature which is hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do,” Then, the beloved apostle describes the feet of the glorified Lord, He says that, “his feet are as fine brass.” This certainly emphasizes the truth that Jesus Christ is the One who will make the final judgments and issue the eternal sentences. “His voice is like the sound of many waters.” This profound picture delineates the reality of Jesus’ supreme power and sovereign authority. He will command every grave, from throughout the timeline of history, to give up its dead and stand before the Great White Throne Judge. Next, John gives this startling revelation: “Out of His mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword.” This shocking portrait epitomizes the truth of the certain judgment and eternal condemnation of all unconverted sinners throughout all the eons of time. He will take the sword of His mouth and finally deal with these multitudes of sinners who never surrendered their lives to Him in repentance and saving faith! When John the Apostle (the beloved one who had lain his head on the breast of the Lord Jesus at the last supper) was given this climactic vision of the exalted and glorified Lord Jesus, he fell to the ground as if he were a dead man! Precious reader, if this was the response of the beloved disciple of Jesus (when he saw the glorified and exalted Lord), then what will be the reaction of the billions of unconverted souls who must stand before his pristine holiness and inflexible justice? You can be absolutely certain that they will be thoroughly overwhelmed with terror, as they stand before His blazing holiness and unmitigated justice, in the nakedness of their sinfulness! Moreover, there will be no place to hide from this final judgment. Look again at vs. 11b: “the heavens and the earth fled from His presence.” Revelation 6:15-17 further emphasizes this sobering reality, “And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, HID THEMSELVES in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, ‘Fall on us and HIDE US from the face of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the LAMB! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?’” However, there will be no place to hide on the final day of the outpouring of the wrath of the Lamb!” The entire contaminated universe has ceased to exist. For the Lord Jesus Christ has incinerated the known universe! When Adam and Eve initially sinned against the Lord God, they attempted to hide from Him, but could not. How can anyone possibly hide from the omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent Lord? Suffice to say, there will be no place to hide on that awesome day. When the Judge issues His summons to appear in court, every soul will be compelled to appear before the Great White Throne Judge.
