The California condor flew alongside woolly mammoths and remains one of the largest flying land birds in North America. It’s ancient, powerful, and sacred. But the modern world nearly wiped it out. By 1982, just 23 condors remained worldwide. 🥺 But the Yurok (@theyuroktribe) and Nez Perce (@npt1855) tribes have come to the rescue. Since 2008, the Yurok Tribe has led one of the most successful condor restoration efforts ever. Now they’re sharing their knowledge with the Nez Perce who are working to return California condors to Hells Canyon. This is such an important effort that we recently committed another $500,000 to the Nez Perce to help.
