Ad text

Callista had just finished making love with her husband and was about go rinse off in the bathroom. The closet door flew open. Blair jumped out, doubled over with laughter. “Callie, so that’s what you’re like in bed? The look on your face was priceless.” Then she began to mimic the way Callista had trembled, exaggerating every shudder. The color drained from Callista’s face. She froze. Blair acted as if she did not notice her humiliation. She went straight to Rhett’s side, hooked an arm around his neck, and dragged her nails lightly along his throat. “Rhett, I had no idea. You’re *that* good?” Rhett let out a low laugh and flicked Blair on the forehead. “I told you. You just didn’t believe me.” “How was I supposed to know you weren’t just bragging?” Blair reached for the hem of his bathrobe. “Unless I check for myself...” Whenever the two of them got together, they acted like a pair of bickering children. Blair and Callista had grown up together. She was outgoing and pretty, with a knack for livening up any room. Wherever she went, people liked her easily. Even Rhett, who was usually cold and distant, had softened after meeting her a few times. Later, he’d even made an exception, hiring Blair as his assistant at the law firm despite her community college degree. For a while, Callista had felt uneasy about it. She had even wondered whether Rhett would still have married her if he had met Blair first. One night, she finally asked him. Rhett had frozen for a moment, then pulled her tightly into his arms. “I’m patient with Blair only because she’s your friend.” He’d looked at her then, his voice laced with sincerity. “No one could ever replace you.” Callista had clung to those words for a long time. After that, whenever their closeness made her uncomfortable, she forced herself to accept it. Now, the two of them stood before her, laughing and bickering, their bodies far too close. Callista stood there, cold spreading through her entire body. ... She raised her hand and swung at Blair. “Blair, are you insane? Why were you hiding in my closet?” Before her hand could connect, Rhett caught her wrist in midair. He held her there, a soft laugh escaping his lips. “Still have the energy to be angry? Guess I didn’t try hard enough.” His tone was light, almost coaxing. “Blair just likes to mess around. She was curious, that’s all.” “She pestered me for ages, and it was getting annoying, so I told her she could take a peek.” “You get embarrassed so easily. I knew you’d freak out if I told you.” Callista looked at him, her heart sinking with each word. “You agreed to it?” Her voice was raw. “Rhett, that was between us. How could you let someone else *watch*?” “What’s the big deal? It’s not that serious.” Blair was completely unfazed. She even reached out and wrapped an arm around Callista’s shoulders. “Callie, are you really mad?” “I only got your face. I didn’t get any of the good parts.” Callista’s eyes instantly reddened. “You took photos?” She lunged for the phone. Blair immediately ducked behind Rhett, holding the phone aloft and laughing as she dodged back and forth. “Your face was just too cute! I couldn’t resist. I sent it to everyone.” Rhett shielded Blair with his body. Again and again, Callista’s hands closed on empty air. Her knees hit the floor hard. The phone’s glowing screen remained just out of reach, hidden behind Rhett’s frame. No matter what she did, she couldn’t get to it. A sharp sting filled her nose, and her chest ached as if it were being crushed. Only after Blair had finally collapsed against Rhett’s back, panting with laughter, did he raise a hand and catch Callista’s wrist. “Enough. Don’t be so petty.” Callista gritted her teeth and wrenched the phone from Blair’s hand. On the screen was a Slack channel. Owner: Rhett Cr......
