So many of you have reached out and have been so kind and complimentary about the real Thor! The large goofy inspiration for the main character in Thor's First Day at Doggy Daycare! Almost TWO THOUSAND people have reacted to the recent Goofy Newfy post with some of his pics over the years. I was thinking...I bet the Newfer crew would love to see some more of him as a pup! The uncoordinated, hairy ball of fur that my family and I fell in love with. I picked Thor as a main character in the series because Newfoundlands are known for their temperament. The actual Newfie breed standard states that a sweet temperament is, "the most important single characteristic of the breed." It is not a hard reach to think of Thor seeking out and befriending a lonely pup! As a character Thor was the perfect capture of the message I felt was so important to get out to young children: kindness, sweetness, friendliness, etc. Everyone's outpouring of support has been tremendous! Thor should be a household name! As the Goofy Newfy movement grows, as all of you share the book, follow, like, comment, the unifying theme we all have is decency and kindness. If that isn't a message and community worth celebrating I don't know what is. So thank you so much. Please continue sharing, following, buying, messaging, commenting, and recommending.
