Did you know - Golfer's Elbow tends to be more common in men, particularly in those between the ages of 20 to 50? 🧐🤯 Golfer's Elbow or known as Medial Epicondylitis is a condition characterised by inflammation, irritation, or small tears in the tendons that connect the forearm muscles to the inner side of the elbow. These tendons are responsible for controlling movements of the wrist and fingers. Golfer's Elbow pain is typically experienced when bending the wrist, towards the forearm. Overuse of the tendon is one of the most common causes of Golfer's Elbow. Small tears to the tendon can occur after repeated activity. Over time, these tears can lead to swelling and pain. Any activity that involves continual twisting or bending of the wrist may also put a strain on the tendon. Athletes and people who play the following sports such as Golf, Tennis, Racquetball, Squash, or Weightlifting are at a higher risk of developing the condition. The most common symptom of Golfer's Elbow is pain and tenderness on the inner side of the elbow, which may extend down the forearm. The pain is typically aggravated by activities that involve gripping, lifting, or bending the wrist inward (toward the forearm). Physical therapy is recommended for Golfer's Elbow. Treatment program includes manual therapy to improve muscle flexibility, alleviate tension, and restore the full range of motion. Additionally, targeted manual stretching for the shoulder and thoracic spine is crucial, as imbalances in these areas can affect the tendons along the medial elbow. To further aid recovery, therapeutic modalities such as ultrasound therapy and Cryotherapy may be utilised to reduce inflammation and promote healing. As the pain diminishes, customised strengthening exercises and stretching routines will be introduced to enhance stability and prevent recurrence. Functional training will then be incorporated to support the transition back to daily activities or sports. If in doubt, please seek professional advice.
