In his short letter to believers facing cultural confusion, Jude gives a simple action plan for staying grounded. His words in Jude 1:20–21 show how our micro‑decisions shape our macro‑faith. “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” — Jude 1:20–21 Jude outlines four habits, not dramatic spiritual events, but quiet, daily choices. 1. The Choice to Build (Brick by Brick) “...by building yourselves up in your most holy faith...” You don’t build a house in a day. You lay one brick at a time. Spiritual maturity works the same way. You build your faith through small choices, opening Scripture, listening to truth, showing up for community. Every small choice to receive truth is another brick in your foundation. 2. The Choice to Pause (Breath by Breath) “...and praying in the Holy Spirit...” Praying in the Spirit isn’t about long, poetic prayers. It’s the choice to pause before you react. It’s whispering, “Holy Spirit, guide my next words,” in the middle of a normal day. These micro‑prayers keep your heart aligned with God. 3. The Choice to Dwell (Thought by Thought) “...keep yourselves in God’s love...” God’s love is constant. Your awareness of it is not, unless your thoughts abide in His love. Even in the fiercest battles, His love remains. Keeping yourself in His love looks like choosing to believe it, one thought at a time. 4. The Choice to Look Ahead (Step by Step) “...as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ...” It’s easy to get swallowed by today’s anxieties, just look at the world culture that is all around us. Jude calls us to choose an eternal perspective. It’s the small mental shift that says, “This stress is temporary. God’s promises are permanent.” That choice takes the pressure off your present circumstances. You don’t have to overhaul your entire life by tomorrow morning. You just need to focus on the next choice right in front of you. Your faith is shaped by what you do next. Lord, guide my next choice. Strengthen me in the small moments.
