YOU'RE PAYING FOR THIS PIPELINE THE "PRIVATE PARTNER" IS JUST A COVER: A pipeline is no longer tied to the Pathways Project and recent (underwhelming) electric intertie announcements come with NO new dollar figures attached. As Severson-Baker notes: “Alberta and Ottawa said any new pipeline would be privately funded... that promise was broken: a private company will cover just 10%. Taxpayers will front up tens of billions of dollars…. the second promise — that a pipeline would only move ahead if the Pathways project was also built — has also been broken. There is nothing in today’s MOU announced between Canada, Alberta and the Pathways companies that actually compels the companies to move forward with this project." Canada IS going to pay for another pipeline that both the Canadian and Alberta Government will 'invest in' and that will be constructed by the Trans Mountain Corporation - a federal Crown corporation: https://secure.sierraclub.ca/civicrm/mailing/view?id=3993&reset=1 As CBC reports: "The [private sector Pembina] company has said it "shall have no at-risk development capital" at this stage, which likely means that, for the moment, it is not risking a substantial amount of money — if any." They have NO plans to buy it from the public (just as with Trans Mountain, see below). SPREAD THE WORD: The '4D chess' lie was an attempt to keep us all silent while a new pipeline was pushed forward - one that would need public financing. The latest claim that a pipeline is necessary for unity is another lie: Albertans do NOT want to see the public finance a new pipeline and supported a STRONGER industrial carbon price. Alberta also sees a strong majority (62%) in favour of government regulations to limit oil and gas corporations’ greenhouse gas emissions (with only 20% opposed). One thing we DO know for certain is that oil and gas expansion is not economically profitable. There was NOT enough future demand for oil and gas to justify a new oil pipeline nor new LNG projects before the Iran War. Remember how Trans Mountain was going to be sold to a private entity? “Cabinet ministers and officials [originally] insisted they did not intend for the public to be the long-term owner…. [but now] Trans Mountain Corporation and its financial overseer are making a pitch to keep the controversial, $34-billion pipeline in government hands indefinitely,” The Energy Mix reports. Meanwhile, the Tyee reports that Trans Mountain’s profitability could be an “accounting illusion.” Climate policies like the Clean Electricity regulations have also been weakened and domestic oil and gas projects are still being heavily subsidized by the public - which will slow renewable energy adoption. Likewise, the four companies that represent 80% of Canadian oil sands production 60% American-owned. After he filmed the cloud on Sept. 11, Gaucher said his mother got a nosebleed, and he and his son developed a cough. “There’s many concerns around that big black plume,” said Gaucher. “Everyone around right now is talking about really severe allergies.” “My concern is what are we breathing in? What is it going to do to us?
