My best friend laughed when his roommate called me a street charity case. Enzo caught up with me in the fourth-floor corridor. He grabbed me from behind, spun me around, and laughed like he always does. He was glad to see me. Then his roommates walked up. Enzo put an arm over my shoulder and introduced me like I was his proudest achievement. Mattheo Riddle did not even break his stride. He shoved past my shoulder, took out an unlit clove cigarette, and told Enzo to quit blocking the corridor with his charity case. Enzo flipped him off, but he chuckled first. Then he turned to me with an apologetic grin and asked what I thought of his charming friends. I did not laugh. I lived on the streets of London from age five until eleven. I stole bread and slept in wet doorways. Enzo's parents took me in when I was eleven. Enzo is my best friend, and he is the only person at this school who knows how I grew up. I do not know if Enzo told Mattheo about my past, or if Mattheo just guessed because my clothes are old and I do not act like old money. Either way, Enzo did not defend me. He hates his family's high-society rules, but he still shares a dorm with Mattheo and the other rich boys. He likes playing the easygoing peacemaker. When Mattheo threw my background in my face, Enzo treated it like normal boy banter. I did not let it go. When Mattheo moved toward the dungeon stairs, I stepped directly into his path. Mattheo stopped. He did not pull his wand or yell. He just leaned his shoulder against the stone wall and smirked. He looked amused that I dared to stand in front of him. Enzo panicked immediately. He hates fights between people he cares about, especially when it threatens his place in the dorm. He stepped right between Mattheo and me, grabbing my arm. "Don't be sensitive, Sara," Enzo whispered. His voice was frantic. "Mattheo talks like that to everyone. Just smile and tell him you know it was a joke." Enzo was asking me to humiliate myself so he could keep the peace. Mattheo had never spent a single night hungry, cold, or roofless, and he stood there waiting to watch me obey. But Enzo was the one asking me to do it. Mattheo leans against the wall with a smirk. Enzo stands between us, whispering for me to smile and tell Mattheo it was a joke. You decide what happens next. #interactivestory #sagaland
