Five Years Later: The Turning Point A Poem by Jaymie Wright Deese, M.S. (Spanish translation following English) Five years ago today was a catalyst — not the beginning. The story started many years before that. Patterns don’t appear overnight. Neither does healing. There were years of survival before awareness ever showed up. And then, slowly, the understanding began. Psychology helped me name what was happening: nervous system adaptation, attachment patterns, trauma responses, childhood wounds — especially abandonment. What once felt like weakness was actually protection. My nervous system was doing its job. My ego was trying to keep me safe. Faith carried me through the parts psychology could explain but not always soothe. It reminded me that healing isn’t just clinical — it’s spiritual, emotional, human. CBT helped me actively reshape thought patterns so survival beliefs didn’t become permanent identities. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs helped me understand how unmet needs shape behavior — how safety, belonging, and stability influence everything from self-worth to choices. That understanding removed a lot of shame. I also learned about projection — how pain sometimes gets handed outward instead of healed inward. And non-dualism helped me hold two truths at once: compassion for someone’s wounds while still maintaining firm boundaries for my own well-being. Closure didn’t come from apologies or explanations — because I never received either. Closure came from acceptance. From clarity. From realizing peace doesn’t always mean reconciliation — sometimes it means release. Healing doesn’t erase the past. It changes its weight. It gives you distance. It lets you breathe where you once struggled to. Five years later, I see it clearly: that moment wasn’t the beginning — it was the turning point. And growth didn’t come from the pain alone. It came from choosing healing afterward. That’s empowerment. That’s grace. And that’s what moving forward really looks like. Will to Heal™️ LLC Cinco Años Después: El Punto de Inflexión Un poema por Jaymie Wright Deese, M.S. Mi ego intentaba mantenerme a salvo. Will to Heal™️ LLC
