I found my brother's search history. Three days after the funeral. Going through his things. Trying to understand. His laptop was still logged in. Browser still open. And there it was. The night before he died, he'd been searching. "How to tell someone you're struggling." "Signs you need help." "Construction worker mental health." And then, at 11:47pm, the last thing he'd searched: "Dear person behind me hoodie." He'd found the website. Clicked through. Looked at the photos. Read the message. "Dear person behind me, the world is a better place with you in it." But he didn't order one. I sat there staring at that search history for hours. My brother. The night before he died. Looking for help. Looking for hope. Looking for something to hold onto. And he found a hoodie with words that might have saved him. But he didn't buy it. Maybe he thought it was stupid. Maybe he couldn't afford it. Maybe he was already too far gone to believe it would help. I'll never know. What I do know is that at 11:47pm on a Tuesday night, my brother was reaching for something. And he didn't quite grab it. By Wednesday afternoon, he was gone. I ordered one that night. Sat in his room. On his bed. Using his laptop. Ordered the same hoodie he'd been looking at twelve hours before he died. It arrived four days later. I couldn't open it at first. Just left it on the kitchen table. Walked past it for a week. Then one morning, I put it on. And I wore it to his grave. Stood there in the rain. Reading the message out loud to a headstone. "Dear person behind me, the world is a better place with you in it." I said it over and over. Like if I said it enough times, he might somehow hear it. Like I could go back in time and be the stranger on the internet who told him it was true. I wear it every day now. To site. To the shops. To the pub. Everywhere. And I watch the people behind me. Because somewhere out there, right now, there's another bloke like my brother. Searching at midnight. Looking for something to hold onto. Trying to decide if anyone would actually care. And maybe he'll see my back. Maybe he'll read those words. Maybe he'll order one instead of doing what my brother did. Last month, a young lad stopped me outside Screwfix. "That hoodie," he said. "I've seen it online. Was thinking about getting one." I looked at him. Properly looked. He had that same heaviness my brother had. The same darkness behind the eyes. "Get one," I said. "Today. Don't wait." He nodded. Pulled out his phone right there in the car park. "I'm ordering it now," he said. "What colour?" "Doesn't matter. Just get one. And wear it. Every day. For whoever's behind you." He ordered it while I watched. I don't know his name. Don't know his story. Don't know what he was searching at midnight. But I know he ordered one. And I know he's going to wear it. And I know that whoever's behind him is going to read it. And maybe that's enough. Front says "You're Enough." Back says "Dear person behind me, the world is a better place with you in it. Love, the person in front of you." My brother searched for it the night before he died. He didn't order one. Now I wear it for him. And for every bloke who's searching at midnight, trying to decide if it's worth holding on. It is. I promise. Order the hoodie. Read the words. Believe them. And then wear it for the next person who's searching.
