This weeks Buddhist philosophy and meditation classes: THE MOMENTUM OF CHANGE Introductory: Sun 17 May from 1.30 - 3 pm External events and change can sometimes affect our wellbeing. This week we will gently explore the cause of change, our perceptions, expectations, and good qualities that bring about a level of resilience and inner strength. Each meditation in this introductory series, ‘The Path to Knowing and Making Sense of this World’ with Angela Scherma, includes different learning styles to help develop a calm mind. THE TWELVE DEPENDENT LINKS Path to Enlightenment: Sun 17 May from 4 - 5.30 pm By gradually deeper understanding of the twelve dependent links, we can begin to soften difficult mindsets - such as grasping and an unrealistic view of reality - and move step by step towards greater freedom and happiness. Chapter 16 of "Path to Enlightenment in Tibetan Buddhism", which Chris presents this week, explores the twelve dependent links, a Buddhist teaching that explains how suffering arises through a connected chain of causes. MEDITATIONS ON THE PATH TO ENLIGHTENMENT 11 am -12 noon Tuesdays Guided meditation session on Tuesday 19 May from 11 am to 12 noon. Led by Paul Sokolich (Sox), the session offers guided meditations drawn from Meditations on the Path to Enlightenment by Geshe Loden. Enter from the back of the temple. The session concludes with a relaxed cuppa and chat. ABOUT THE CLASSES Sunday classes are held in a beautiful traditional Tibetan temple and are suitable for newcomers and experienced meditators alike. Teachers are long term students of the Society’s founder, Geshe Loden. The serene space features a large statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, garden surrounds, and both cushions and chairs for comfort. Each class includes a guided meditation, a talk, and Q&A, followed by refreshments and an opportunity to chat. The Enjoyment Shop is open before the introduction class and from 3-4 pm. $10 facility charge. Proceeds support the upkeep of the temple and gardens. Address: 20 Cookes Rd, Yuroke.
