Some women begin to notice how early appearance was asked to carry the burden of value. The body first. The self later. The mirror before the feeling. Beauty as welcome, approval as evidence, the visible self trusted faster than the inward one. Part of what makes this so powerful is: a woman can be taught that how she looks will decide how she is received, what she is worth, whether she will be welcomed at all. The body becomes something to tend, correct, improve, manage. Not because beauty is shallow, but because women are so often taught that appearance will buy what selfhood alone cannot. What gets starved for that bargain is not small. Thought. Appetite. Authority. Anger. The right to be more than pleasing. The right to know before being approved. The body begins to live under watch, and what is watched too closely is hard to fully inhabit. Patriarchy does not only shape how women are seen. It teaches women to participate in the seeing. The gaze moves inward. It starts calling itself care, discipline, self-improvement. A woman learns to check the mirror before the feeling, to trust approval faster than hunger, anger, or knowing. Something older is usually stirred here. The hope can take hold that if she gets the body right enough, she will finally feel safe in belonging. As though beauty could secure what should never have been conditional. As though appearance could protect her from being diminished. Its cost is rarely visible at first. This is one of the quieter powers of inner work. A woman begins to feel what changes when appearance no longer carries the burden of value. The mirror is no longer the first witness. Approval stops reading as truth. The body becomes less a project to manage and more a place to return to. And once she knows the difference, the old arrangement can no longer call itself worth. #WomensInnerLives #DepthPsychology #FeministPsychology #MythicPsychology #InternalisedGaze
