A lot of my books are interconnected, so I have several books (even a whole series) set in the same future time period. All of them can be read independently. For this one, it does help to read Fire in the Hole! first but only because the two main characters are in both books. There’s no absolute need to, though – I always write my books so they can be read and understood independently. On a side note, Fire in the Heart massively outsells Fire in the Hole! anyway, so most people skip the first one for some reason. Here’s the blurb: Augmented against her will into a human weapon, Youko is able to turn her body into living flame and survive the vacuum of space. On the trail of her fellow victim Hinako, Youko’s travels take her to Saturn, where Hinako intends to end a war which has been raging between the gas giant’s moons for decades. Along with former Martian Air Force officer Magnolia, Youko concentrates on transporting refugees and saving lives under the bombardment. With the atrocities against civilians mounting, they discover Hinako is only making things worse with her random attacks. Afraid of her own powers and the potential to incinerate anyone around her, Youko must keep constant control of her emotions. As she grows closer to Magnolia, however, those overwhelming emotions threaten to be just as destructive as anything Hinako is doing.
