Blue Bird-of-Paradise display 🩵 This endemic PNG bird-of-paradise has become an iconic symbol of Papua New Guinea’s birding industry. Since 2022, my PNG brother @paiya_tours and I have worked hard to study and protect this species. Together, we located five active display leks, developed repeatable methods to find them, and successfully set up feeders now visited regularly by several individuals. We’ve also been educating local landowners on protecting lek areas from disturbance. Over the past three years, many birders have visited PNG to witness and photograph these incredible displays. This year, two groups even captured rare footage of mating behavior — an intimate and unforgettable natural experience. Across my social media platforms, Blue Bird-of-Paradise content has now surpassed 200 million views. I’m grateful this bird is reaching a wider audience and inspiring greater awareness for its conservation. We will continue supporting Blue Bird-of-Paradise conservation in every way possible, and we hope this species can become an umbrella symbol for bird conservation in PNG. We are also reaching out to international conservation organizations to reassess its status, as habitat loss remains a growing concern. Thank you to everyone who cares about this bird and its future.
