Metal Works Manager (Marine & Industrial Fabrication) Location: Melita Shipyard – France Business Unit: Melita Marine Group Employment Type: Full-Time ________________________________________ About the Role We are looking for a dynamic and technically proficient Metal Works Manager to oversee fabrication operations in both the marine and industrial sectors. This Malta- based role is ideal for someone who thrives on managing teams, driving project success, and engaging with clients. Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential, as you will be involved in reviewing and creating fabrication drawings for client approval and production. Key Responsibilities Team & Operations Management • Manage a team of ~10 skilled personnel handling steel and aluminium fabrication and assembly. • Oversee daily workshop operations, scheduling, quality control, safety, and on- time project delivery. • Assign tasks based on capacity and project priorities to ensure efficiency and profitability. Technical Oversight & AutoCAD Use • Review and create technical drawings using AutoCAD to support design, fabrication, and installation. • Collaborate with design teams and engineers to ensure project feasibility and fabrication accuracy. • Interpret client specifications and translate them into detailed fabrication plans. Customer Engagement & Quotation Management • Communicate directly with clients, understanding their technical and commercial requirements. • Prepare quotations and cost estimates using project drawings and technical data. • Participate in client meetings and site visits to clarify project scope and ensure satisfaction. Business Development • Identify and pursue new clients in both marine and industrial markets. • Contribute to company growth through relationship building, lead generation, and tender submissions. • Maintain a presence in industry networks and local markets. Team Growth & Development • Mentor team members and support skills development, particularly in design interpretation and fabrication planning. • Assist in recruitment and performance reviews. • Promote high standards of safety, quality, and teamwork across the department. Required Experience & Skills • Minimum 5 years' experience in steel/aluminium fabrication (marine or industrial). • At least 3 years in a management or supervisory role. • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D essential, 3D a strong advantage). • Ability to interpret and produce technical fabrication drawings. • Strong understanding of welding, materials, production workflows, and safety standards. • Excellent leadership and client-facing communication skills. Preferred Qualifications • Technical certification in fabrication, welding, or mechanical engineering. • Familiarity with shipbuilding and offshore fabrication practices. • Experience with estimating tools and ERP systems is a plus.
